A dirty urban fjord with some clean secrets
We heard a rumour that a forgotten research project was waiting to be found under the new, posh seaside district of Oslo, the Norwegian capital. Fifteen years ago, scientists and entrepreneurs wanted to ease the burden on the fjord when they created the modern piece of real estate on stilts called Tjuvholmen. Artificial reefs were installed for marine life to grow on. But what about the 1,000, 10-meter-long mussel ropes hanging down into the darkness under luxury restaurants, posh hotels, and pricey apartments?
We dived under the boarded-up quay to see if there was anything left of this forgotten project.
Push play to see what we found.
